Is HIFU as Good as Botox?
HIFU and anti-wrinkle injections work in very different ways. The better choice depends on whether your concern is skin laxity or movement-related lines.
The short answer
Neither treatment is universally better. HIFU uses focused ultrasound energy to heat selected deeper tissue layers and may gradually improve the appearance of mild skin laxity. Botulinum toxin injections temporarily reduce activity in specific muscles, which can soften expression lines.
What does HIFU treat?
HIFU is usually considered for selected concerns such as mild laxity around the lower face, jawline or neck. Changes develop gradually over weeks to months, and results vary. It cannot reproduce the muscle-relaxing action of botulinum toxin.
What do anti-wrinkle injections treat?
Botulinum toxin is commonly used for dynamic wrinkles, such as frown lines and crow’s feet. Effects typically begin within days and may last around three to four months, although individuals vary. It does not directly tighten loose skin.
Which gives quicker results?
Anti-wrinkle injections usually produce a visible change sooner. HIFU results, where they occur, are more gradual because tissue remodelling takes time. Neither should be presented as a permanent solution.
Can you combine the treatments?
Some clients consider both for different concerns, but timing and suitability require an individual assessment with appropriately qualified practitioners. A combined plan is not automatically necessary.
Risks and suitability
HIFU can cause discomfort, redness, swelling and, less commonly, burns, nerve injury or unwanted fat loss. Botulinum toxin injections can cause bruising, asymmetry, eyelid drooping or other complications. Pregnancy, medical history and medication may affect suitability.
How to decide
Start with the concern you want to address rather than the name of a treatment. Ask what change is realistic, how long it may take, what it costs and what happens if you are unhappy with the result.
