What Does a Hydrafacial Do for Your Face?
If your skin looks dull, feels dehydrated or needs a proper refresh, you may have wondered whether a Hydrafacial is worth booking. Here's what the treatment actually does, what you can expect and how to decide whether it's right for you.
What is a Hydrafacial?
A Hydrafacial is a facial treatment that combines several skincare steps, commonly including cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration.
At Olive Beauty & Aesthetics, we offer the HydrO2 facial system at our Woburn Sands clinic near Milton Keynes. It uses a combination of technologies, with treatment steps selected according to your skin and what you'd like to improve.
1. It cleanses your skin
Throughout the day, oil, makeup, sunscreen and other impurities can build up on the skin. A thorough facial cleanse helps remove surface residue and prepares your skin for the next stages of treatment.
2. It exfoliates dull surface skin
Exfoliation removes some of the dead skin cells from the surface. This can leave skin looking smoother and brighter, particularly when rough texture or dullness is your main concern.
The intensity should be adapted to your skin's sensitivity. More exfoliation isn't always better.
3. It can help with surface congestion
Depending on the treatment selected, suction-based cleansing and extraction techniques may help remove debris from congested pores.
However, a facial won't permanently change your pore size or replace appropriate care for persistent acne.
4. It focuses on hydration
Hydration is a key part of the treatment. Suitable skincare products and serums can help skin feel softer, more comfortable and temporarily plumper.
Dehydrated skin can make fine lines appear more noticeable, so improving surface hydration may also make skin look fresher.
5. It can give skin a fresher appearance
Some clients notice smoother-feeling skin and a more radiant appearance shortly after their appointment. Results vary, and any immediate improvement is not permanent.
A HydrO2 facial is not a substitute for treatments intended to address deeper wrinkles, significant scarring or medical skin conditions.
Is a Hydrafacial suitable for everyone?
Not necessarily. Active irritation, sunburn, certain skin conditions, allergies or recent cosmetic procedures may mean treatment needs to be postponed or adapted.
Your therapist should discuss your skin history, products and treatment goals before recommending the most suitable facial.
How often should you have one?
There isn't one schedule that suits everybody. Some clients book a facial before an occasion, while others prefer regular appointments. The right frequency depends on your skin, its sensitivity and the treatment steps used.
